Get ready for an adventure like no other—at the Valley of the Latte's Culture Camp! In our summer adventures, campers get outside to explore habitats, discover wildlife, connect with friends, and create new memories. Led by experienced educators, campers learn about our island's history, beauty, and culture in the unique and magical setting of the Valley. Campers will have an amazing amount of fun participating in great workshops and activities throughout their Culture Camp Days!

Campers will learn:

  • how to create both practical and beautifully decorative woven items from Coconut leaves, Pago Fiber, and Akgak. Campers will learn how to identify leaves for weaving, understand the differences and the different uses of each type, and connect it all with the rich cultural heritage of our people.
  • how to select, husk and prep freshly picked Coconuts for Coconut Candy making and other uses of the Coconut.
  • how to care for the local wildlife and how to become an ally of wildlife conservation. Campers will learn about the historical and cultural significance of our island's animal life while they care for and feed the animals every day.
  • how to carefully explore the beautiful surrounding areas and leave only footprints. Campers will engage in basic hiking safety and best practices, learn about the cultural significance of the local area, and embark on guided hikes through the valley while carefully documenting their environments. An ecologically friendly tour is a great benefit after being couped up this past year.
  • how to carefully Kayak with basic kayaking safety, lessons on paddling, steering, and navigation. Campers will truly be amazed as they embark on guided tours over the calm and cool waters of the only navigable riverways on the island.

We will be offering Five (4) 2-week sessions.

Hafa Adai!

I would like to extend a warm welcome from here at the Valley to our parents and campers. We are looking forward to having our campers joining us for an adventurous and culturally educational 2 weeks. Below you will find some useful information on what to expect for our camp:

Camp Hours:

Drop-off is at 9am sharp and pick-up will be from 2pm to 2:30pm.

What to wear:

Our campers should wear shoes and clothes which are comfortable for them to play in. Extra clothes are recommended to be packed as well as sometimes our campers can get dirty or wet due to weather conditions.

Lunch and snacks:

A wonderful lunch will be provided everyday to our campers; however if our campers would like to bring snacks or their own lunch, that will be no problem at all. Water and tea will also be available so please have your child bring a flask or bottle to carry their water.

Our campers will be able to immerse themselves in an outdoor experience while learning skills and traditions of the Chamorro culture. They will be able to explore through areas such as our animal sanctuary, Chamorro village, cultural demonstration area, and our very own agricultural farm. Each day our campers will be learning new skills through fun activities such as weaving, fire-making, rope-making, hand-line fishing, kayaking, and much more! They should get ready for some fun in the sun which would mean some supplies will be necessary. We care for the health of all our campers which is why we have prepared a survival kit upon their arrival. Each survival kit includes a Valley of the Latte hat, small hand towel, and 2 COVID-19 home test kits in a reusable bag. We only ask that campers come with their own sunscreen, bug repellent, and closed-toed shoes. I hope our campers are ready as we are for them!

See you all soon!

Camp director Danielle Hagen

Every camper will receive this re-usable welcome bag! We will also be providing a Valley of the Latte Hat for some stylish sun protection, a small hand towel, and every camper will also receive 2 COVID-19 home test kits.

P.S. our plushy friends, the Binadu, Babui, & Karabao can be purchased separately at our Visitor's Center as a wonderful souvenir.
